Top 10 iOS 5 features....

1. Notifications

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesThe first big feature is notifications. At last, Apple will get rid of the annoying popups that break your flow. And with "annoying popups" I really meant "stupid dumb boxes that makes me want to smash my f*cking iPhone against the wall when I'm playing a game or chatting with strangers in the night".
They have replaced those with a new app called Notification Center. It's very similar to Mobile Notifier, the iOS notification app—which makes sense, since Apple hired its developer a while back. It not only includes app notification, but mini-widgets that show live information from apps like Weather and apps.
The notifications extend to the lock screen too, so you can see more stuff right away without unlocking your phone. Sliding your finger on it will automatically lead you to the app that generated that notification.
It looks very straightforward and useful.

2. Newsstand

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesApple has built a virtual newsstand right onto iOS 5, very similar to the iBooks app but exclusively for magazines and periodicals. It looks like a cross between iBooks and a folder view, actually.

3. Twitter integration everywhere

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesiOS 5 will have Twitter integration everywhere. Apps like camera will be able to directly post the image to Twitter. The YouTube App, Safari or even Maps will support direct sharing in Twitter. It also adds a new Twitter address field to your Contacts application.

4. A new Safari

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesSafari has been revamped with new features. Reader will allow you to reformat a site on the fly, taking out ads and reformatting text so it looks better on your iPad or iPhone screen.
This feature flows into Reading List, which is a way to save those pages for later offline viewing, keeping them synchronized between all your iOS devices and Lion. Presumably via iCloud.
Apple's web browser also adds tabs in this version. Your open pages will line up right below your address bar. According to Apple, switching between pages is "lightning fast," so perhaps they have made some magic with the memory management to reduce the reload of pages in older devices.

5. New Reminders app

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesThe new Reminders app makes it easy to make to-do lists. The interface is very simple and it's synchronized between iOS 5 devices and your Mac OS X desktop or notebook.
The really cool thing about Reminders is that it's location aware. Imagine you add that you need to buy milk, but then you forget about it. When you pass by the grocery store, the app will tell you that you need to buy milk.

6. New Camera app and photos

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesThe new Camera up gets two of the most-requested features in the history of iOS. The first is a shortcut in the lock screen to access the camera right away, so you don't have to unlock and then click on the Camera icon, which often makes you lose the moment.
The other one, which is something we have whined about endlessly, is using one of the volume button as the shutter button. Just press + and that's it: CLICK! This is a very welcome addition.
The new app also includes basic photo editing. It includes quick enhance—which basically sharpens your image, making shadows and highlights more detailed, and correct color automagically. It also include red eye reduction and cropping, both welcome additions to those who don't have the Camera Plus already.

7. New Mail app

Mail includes a barrage of enhancements
• Rich Text Formatting, which will allow you to annoy the hell out of everyone bolding every sentence in your mails.
• Indentation control, which allows you to control the level of indentation of your quotes from other messages.
• Draggable email addresses, which allows to drag and drop email addresses into to, cc and bcc fields.
• Message flagging to call your attention over a particular mail later.
• Swipe to Inbox, which makes it very easy to access the list of message in portrait mode on the iPad, instead of clicking on a button for a weird pop-up dialog.

8. No PC required

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesAt long last, the most important feature of them all: You will not need iTunes and PC anymore to use your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Apple has caught up with Android and Windows Phone 7. The new iOS 5 will allow you to set up your new device easily: Turn your new gadget on and a Welcome screen will appear. All software updates will happen over the air.
All the applications will now be completely autonomous. You will not have to go to iCal or some other desktop app to create a calendar, for example. There is no need for a desktop or laptop anymore, for anything.

9. New Game Center

The have enhanced Game Center too. Unfortunately, they have not renewed its awful casino interface, which looks as dated as always. But they have added much needed concepts from Xbox Live and other gaming systems:
• Achievement points.
• Access friends of friends, so you can compare and play with a wider range of people.
• Photos in your profile, so you can flirt with other nerds pretending to be women online.
• Game discovery, to play with whoever wants to play with you at any given time.
• Game downloads within Game Center.
• Support for turn-based games like Words for Friends and Scrabble.

10. iMessage

iOS 5: The Top 10 New FeaturesAnother new useful feature, which will hurt Blackberry and the telecommunications companies wanting to sell you stupid SMS and MMS contracts: Apple has implemented a new messaging system called iMessage.
It works between all iOS 5 devices, allowing you to leave conversations on your iPhone and continue them in your iPad (again, I will not be surprised to see this integrated into Lion at a later date). It comes with delivery notification as well. However, unlike WhatsApp, it doesn't work with other non-iOS devices. Maybe Apple thinks your Android and Blackberry friends are not worth talking to for free.

All the others

• Dictionary everywhere: This is something that many people have asked for because they like it in the iBooks app. Now, every application will have Dictionary built-in.
• iTunes synchronization over Wi-Fi
• Advanced gestures: It will allow you to pass from app to app on the iPad by using a simple swipe gesture, without having to use the home button. This was a feature has been in testing for a long time and, trust me, once you try it you will not be able to live without it.

When is it happening?

If you are a developer, it's happening right now. The developer preview is available. The rest of the world will have to wait till this fall. But if u wanna try iOS 5 get ur device udid registered under the devoloper as soon as possible..now iOS 5 beta 6 is runnin on the registered idevices

What is iOS 5?

Apple iOS (formerly iPhone OS) began with the release of the iPhone on June 29, 2007. iOS is the operating system that runs on Apple's mobile devices such as the iPhone,iPod touch, and iPad. This operating system also runs on the Apple TV, but the user interface is substantially different.
With the June 6, 2011 announcement of iOS version 5.0 at WWDC 2011, a USB connection to iTunes is no longer required to unbox and activate iOS devices; data synchronization happens automatically and wirelessly through Apple's new iCloud service.

The new iOS 5 is here. It is a "major release", according to Apple. It brings revamped notifications and more than 200 new features for your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Some of these features you already had in your iPhone or iPad. They just came in third-party apps.
iOS drastically changes iphone notification system...notification bar similar to android is introduced.new safari is launched. a new reminder system which can be set as per requirement the new newstand app and all new tweeter integration making iOS very interactive .

icloud a major feature is introduced in iOS 5........iCloud is so much more than a hard drive in the sky. It’s the effortless way to access just about everything on all your devices. iCloud stores your content so it’s always accessible from your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, or PC.* It gives you instant access to your music, apps, latest photos, and more. And it keeps your email, contacts, and calendars up to date across all your devices. No syncing required. No management required. In fact, no anything required. iCloud does it all for you.

imessage is a messaging feature for all idevices..it works on wifi or 3g ...it is free messaging system for all i devices..letting u share photos..it is very much similar to blackberry..bbm services...

FAQs

IPHONE/IPOD TOUCH MODS/JAILBREAK FAQ

I claim no originality for any of this information. I am simply posting it here so that it may be of use to those in this forum.

This is a FAQ/reference for all those who are new to modifying and unlocking the true potential of their iPod Touch/iPhone.

----------------------------------

INTRODUCTION

You have an iPhone or iPod Touch. You’d like to hack it or unleash its full potential, but you’re not sure where to start. You’re not sure what’ll work with your computer, your device, and what won’t. Is Apple OK with this? Is it illegal? Will apple release a third party program system? After this FAQ list, you’ll be able to make a final decision on how to hack your unit or whether or not you’ll hack it at all.

------------------------------------
WHAT? AND WHY?

Why would I want to hack my iPod Touch or iPhone?

When Apple first released the iPhone and then the iPod Touch, the company also released a method for third-parties to create applications for the devices. The apps wouldn’t run on the units themselves, but rather one would use Safari on the mobile device to access web sites that would perform basic functions such as simple games, dictionaries, etc. In the end, it wasn’t really software but rather simple web sites, or web apps, designed to work with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Users worldwide were not OK with this. They wanted to run other programs on the devices other than those supplied by Apple. They also wanted the convenience of not needing a wifi connection to access these 'softwares'. As a result, they figured out a way to install their own programs, allowing users to run programs like Instant Messaging clients, complex games, interactive fiction, and customization apps used to change the look and feel of the Springboard.

What is the SpringBoard?

The SpringBoard typically refers to the homescreen of your iPod Touch or iPhone. More accurately, the SpringBoard is the program that allows you to launch applications from the homescreen.

Why would I not want to hack my iPod Touch or iPhone?

The main reason users choose not to hack their units is because they’re satisfied with their devices as they are. If you see no reason in hacking your unit, why go through the effort? Besides, Apple’s going to release an official third-party app delivery system (SDK) in June (but you may not be happy with the idea of paying for the various applications released through this system or even the restrictions Apple will place in the applications that are allowed to be released).

Is it illegal to hack the iPod Touch or iPhone?

Hacking the iPod Touch is not illegal. While Apple would like to make you think it is illegal, it is not, and it is impossible to get in any legal trouble for hacking it. You and Apple made an exchange. You gave Apple $400 and they gave you an iPod. It is officially yours and you can do whatever you want with it.

It is illegal to post copyrighted code, such as the operating system of the iPod Touch and the iPhone, on the Internet. But you won’t be doing that if you choose to hack your device.

Will this void the iPod Touch / iPhone warranty?

Technically speaking, the warranty is void if you perform any modifications to your device, however, since a full restore through iTunes would erase all tracks of your modifications, Apple would not know whether you have performed any of these jailbreaking methods. In this sense, jailbreaking or modifying your device would not void your warrenty as long as you perform a full restore before sending your device back to an Apple store, etc.

You speak about the iPod Touch and iPhone as if they were the same device or at least very, very similar. What’s the deal with that?

The iPod Touch and the iPhone are very, very similar. They use the same operating system and very similar software. As a result, the main differences between the two are the hardware differences. The iPod Touch is essentially a phone-less, Bluetooh-less, iPhone.

How can I restore my iPod Touch or iPhone should something go wrong?

Connect your device to your computer via the included USB cable. Open iTunes, click on the iPod or iPhone icon on the left, and click the big restore button somewhere towards the middle of the application. After a short period of time, your device will return to its factory settings.

What if the restore button within iTunes does not work or gives me some sort of error?

In some rare circumstances, the restore feature within iTunes may not be able to restore your iPod Touch in which case you will need to turn your iPod touch into recovery mode.

Recovery Mode:
  1. Connect your iPod touch into iTunes through the USB cable.
  2. Press and hold both the Hold and Home physical buttons simaltaneously until the screen turns off (black). (Your iPod touch also disappears from iTunes)
  3. Release the Hold button whilst still holding the Home button until your iPod touch pops back in iTunes.

iTunes will then detect your iPod touch in recovery mode and ask you to restore it (restore it as usual).

JAILBREAKING

What exactly is jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking refers to breaking the iPod Touch and iPhone free from the clutches of Apple. In other words, gaining read/write access to the devices in order to install your own programs.

What exactly is unlocking?

If you unlock your iPhone, you can use the services of various GSM based carriers around the world.

------------------------------------

WHAT TO DO?

After having all my questions answered, I’d like to hack and/or unlock my unit. What do I have to do?

IPOD TOUCH / IPHONE TERMINOLOGY
  • Chmod: refers to changing the permission of a file (e.g. to 755).
  • SSH: SSH stands for Secure Shell. It allows you to connect to your iPod Touch over a WiFi connection using a SSH client such as Putty. Through SSH, you can access your iPod Touch's file system or input commands through a terminal.

JAILBREAKING: How to jailbreak from redsnow

redsn0w is the jailbreaking tool used to jailbreak an iphone, ipad(first genration),ipod and apple tv .....
Redsn0w is specific to your firmware. The latest version does not jailbreak all firmware versions. Please download the tool version below based on your firmware or your operating system (MAC vs Windows).
Redsn0w v0.8 (firmware 3.0 & 3.0.1) MAC Windows
Redsn0w v0.9.4 (3.1.2, 3.1.3) MAC Windows
Redsn0w v0.9.5b5-3 (4.0 only iPhone 3g) MAC Windows
Redsn0w v0.9.6b1 (4.1 only iPhone 3g) MAC Windows v0.9.6.b4 (4.2.1, all devices) MAC  Windows
v0.9.6.rc9 (4.3.1) MAC  Windows
v0.9.6.rc14 (4.3.2) MAC  Windows New–> v0.9.6.rc16 (4.3.3) MAC Window
s
This guide applies to all versions of Redsn0w. The pictures show v0.7 but this hasn’t changed. The guide has been updated for all firmwares.
(Note screenshots are from a PC, but they are the same as MAC)
Guide:
Step 1
) Run redsn0w (Windows 7 users, run this in XP compatibility mode to avoid hanging on uploading firmware bundle step).
Step 2) Press “Browse” and fi!nd the correct firmware for your device.  You should have downloaded it above because you should have read the needed files section!  PLEASE make sure that if you have an iPhone 4 your firmware should start with 3,1...iPhone 3G, your firmware should start with iPhone1,2,.... iphone 3gs firmware starts with iPhone2,_1...... and if you have an iPhone 2G it should start with iPhone1,1!  This is a big deal, it won’t work without the correct firmware
Click “Open”, and redsn0w will process your firmware.  When it is done, it should say “IPSW successfully identified”.
Step 3) On the next screen you will be able to install Cydia, and I suggest you do so.  What’s the point of jailbreaking if you can’t install jailbroken apps? (rhetorical =) Note: DO NOT INSTALL ICY. At least at the point of this writing, there seem to be conflicts having both installed and Cydia handles apps better and you will have less problems.
Just hit the next button, and you will see this:

At this point, you want to turn your phone off.  Hold the power button until you see the “slide to power off”, and do it!
The next screen wants you to follow a series of instructions that will put your phone in DFU Mode.  This will allow redsn0w to perform the jailbreak.  You need to do this correctly otherwise it won’t work. If you have any problems, see our DFU mode guide.

  1. Hold down the Power (corner) button for 3 seconds
  2. Without releasing the Power button, push the Home (bottom center) button for 10 seconds
  3. Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button BUT KEEP holding the Home button for 15 seconds.
Once redsn0w starts doing something, you can release the home button on the third step, you don’t have to hold it down for all 30.  You’ll KNOW when it happens.
Now your phone will be doing a series of things – and in the end, you will have a jailbroken iPhone!  Please comment below with success, failure, and suggestions on the short guide.

what is JAILBREAKING

So you have your iPhone(4, 3, 3gs) and you can install thousands of apps from AppStore. What’s all this commotion about jailbreaking? Why would you need to jailbreak? What does it offer? In this post, I will give some of the most compelling reasons to jailbreak your iPhone(currently iphone 4, and 3 through Firmware version 4.3.3). I will continuously update this post as changes occur.it is mentioned in the article to the firmware version 4.3.3 as after 4.3.3 update there is only tethered jailbreak...to know the what is the diffrence of the tether and untether jailbreak you can check our FAQ page..
Jailbreaking is not unlocking! It is risk free and totally legal. Everything that works before jailbreaking continues to work after. Jailbreaking only adds features. Jailbreaking is risk free but it voids your warranty but you can simply restore in iTunes at anytime to get back to a factory state. You are not alone, many people are doing it. There are over 10 million jailbroken devices now!
Basically jailbreak let us do thing which apple dosent allow us to...there are many cool tweaks(tweaks=cydia app) which change the iphone user interface makin them much better and easy..
i would suggest you to jailbreak from pwnage tool (only for mac users) or redsnow (mac & windows)....this jailbreak tools are frequently updated after a new firmware launch....
If you decide after reading this that you wish to jailbreak, head on to our jailbreak page which will be frequently updated at KUI ..^_^
