What is iOS 5?

Apple iOS (formerly iPhone OS) began with the release of the iPhone on June 29, 2007. iOS is the operating system that runs on Apple's mobile devices such as the iPhone,iPod touch, and iPad. This operating system also runs on the Apple TV, but the user interface is substantially different.
With the June 6, 2011 announcement of iOS version 5.0 at WWDC 2011, a USB connection to iTunes is no longer required to unbox and activate iOS devices; data synchronization happens automatically and wirelessly through Apple's new iCloud service.

The new iOS 5 is here. It is a "major release", according to Apple. It brings revamped notifications and more than 200 new features for your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.Some of these features you already had in your iPhone or iPad. They just came in third-party apps.
